Argentina and Australia will do battle once again just six month after they met in the World Cup knockout rounds, as they clash in an international friendly in China.
The Socceroos will be looking to gain revenge after La Albiceleste ended their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win in the round of 16, with Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez scoring the winning goals despite a late Australia fightback.
Of course, Lionel Messi and Argentina did go on to win the previously elusive World Cup, but coach Lionel Scaloni claimed the match was one of their most difficult of the tournament.
It will be a tall order for the Socceroos to claim the scalp of the world champions – Argentina haven’t lost in eight matches — but if there’s any situation where Australian sports teams thrive, it is when they are the underdog.

Half time: It will be interesting to see how both sides change it up in the second half; could the likes of Julian Alvarez or potential debutant Alejandro Garnacho lift Argentina up a notch? Or could the energy and dynamic pressing of Brandon Borrello help create the crucial chance for the Socceroos?
Half time: Argentina hold a narrow lead thanks to a fantastic Messi strike after just two minutes. Australia did well to regroup and had the next best chance through a Mitch Duke header requiring a smart stop from Martinez. All to play for in the second half!

45 mins: There will be two minutes of added time, as Leckie gives the ball away again almost leading to a chance for Argentina, which Kye Rowles has to clean up.

23 mins: Some fantastic work between Jordan Bos and Riley McGree, with the latter putting a ball to the far post that Duke is just unable to get to. Much better from Australia though, who have settled after their nervy start.
20 mins: Australia counter again and Leckie has a crossing opportunity on the right wing, but his floating cross is over the head of Duke and a precious chance for the Socceroos is wasted.
16 mins: Argentina break again, and Harry Souttar has to come up with a last man tackle to deny Mac Allister, who is slow to get to his feet after the strong challenge.
13 mins: A rare giveaway from Messi allows the Socceroos a rare foray forward, but Argentina are able to get back and eventually the ball goes out harmlessly for a goal kick.
9 mins: Lionel Messi is on fire to begin with, Di Maria with a great ball to Messi down the right, but Messi can’t direct the shot on target with his weaker foot. Australia’s defence is in disarray in the first 10 minutes here.

It would be a surprise if Lionel Scaloni were to move away from 4-3-3 in this match.
Leonardo Balerdi and Facundo Medina have been named in the squad for this match, but they are unlikely to start ahead of Nicolas Otamendi and German Pezzella. Manchester United fans will be interested to see if Alejandro Garnacho is given a senior debut.
